I am experiencing the same problem. I have a 3COM 3CRDAG675 wireless PCI adapter (PCI ID: 10b7:0013r01) on a 1.6.12.4 kernel with the r1367 MADWifi module. The initialisation is as follows:

I then set it up into access point mode and enslave it to a bridge with my Ethernet card. I then connect with my Linux notebook with a 3COM 3CRWE154G72 wireless PCMCIA (prism54) card. If they are sitting right beside each other, it seems to be stable. However, once I move it away, I get a kernel bug in ath_rate/sample/sample.c:366 some random amount of time later and the system locks up (only magic SysRq? still works). Below is the precise output. When I am away, the signal strength is not low. I thought it might be only when the signal strength is low, so I covered the antennae with foil when they were sitting side by side and used a cordless phone that I know interferes with wifi, but that didn't seem to cause any upset.

I was thinking that since this is crashed in the sample code, I would try the other rate modules. The AMRR module crashed as well. Here is the oops:

I just checked in more useful printouts inside these asserts in r1457, can you try that out and post any crashes? I think somehow ath_rate_findrate is getting called before ath_rate_reset is called for some reaso, which explains why switching rate controls doesn't make a difference.

I was not able to get the Onoe module to crash the system, however, the card would enter a sort of dead state where it would not connect to other cards. I've since upgraded to 2.6.16-rc5. I tried the r1457, but, unfortunately, I wasn't able to capture the output when it was mostly working. It worked for about a day and then iwconfig reported the rate to be 0kb/s and the card remained sort of dead (however, it did not crash the system). When I attempted to poke it, the system locked up with no output.

That being said, sometimes, the module will load, and then when I attempt to bring the interface up, this will happen:

 <0>Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt

I want to continue testing, but when the system locks, it really chews up my file system. It was hanging randomly on start up with problem that needed fsck -f to detect created by this random hanging. Is there anything I can do to continue testing without causing so much file system damage?

I recently switched to r1705 and with sample, everything seems to be fine. I guess whatever problem there was, it got solved when something else changed.

Hi

I just got this message from my kernel:

ath_rate_sample: no rates for 00:17:b0:bd:35:60?

I am using r1705 and have configured to virtual interfaces:

wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta nosbeacon wlanconfig ath1 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode ap bssid

ath0 is just a station connected to a wlan using no encryption, ath1 is an ap, configured to use wep encryption. I connected one client to ath1, ath0 was connected to a wlan. After 1 minute or so, I got this message and in the same moment, the client for ath1 was disconnected.

@erik: It seems that your report is unrelated to the original bug report. Someone opened a new ticket for a problem similar to the one you've hit, so please refer to #894.

Since one of those who had the originally reported issue reported that his issue has been fixed at least in r1705, I'll close this ticket as fixed. In case someone still has this issue with r1705 or later, please feel free to reopen the ticket and provide additional information.
